With the launch of Game Boy in 1989, Nintendo was successful in popularizing the concept of handheld game consoles. In fact, it still continues to reign the hand held market till date with some of the best handheld models like Game Boy and Nintendo DS.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is one the highlights of Nintendo DS. Although the DS is backwards compatible with all the games designed for Game Boy Advance, it cannot be used with Game Boy Color games. The Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi are updated versions of the original Nintendo DS. As of 31 March 2009, 101.78 million DS units (Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi) have been sold worldwide.
